Lower Heidelberg Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania Farm Ledger Of John W Gaul.
This is the farm ledger of John W Gaul from Lower Heidelberg Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The ledger book is a excellent genealogy resource for this area of Berks County, Pennsylvania. It contains over 100 pages starting in April 1874 and ending in March 1903. The book contains the names of many local people who did work for Mr Gaul. The entries list the work they did and how much they were paid. The ledger also contains many loose papers like letters, tax receipts, receipts from local stores and a very interesting physicians return of death for Elizabeth Miller dated 1842. This death certificate gives Elizabeths date and place of birth and also the full names of her parents.
This ledger is a fascinating glimpse into farm life in the second half of the 19th century. Many times our ancestors are simply names and dates in a census record or on a grave marker. The kind of information we can find in a book like this is so much more. It helps to bring our ancestors alive.
Some of the surnames that can be found in the book are
Gerhart, Bolman, Dundor, Dunkelberger, Scheffer, Henrich, Schidy, Scheidy, Werner, Fether, Mathias, Hisling or Fisling, Rolman, Pender, Brosman, Kissling, Bucher, Herner, Strickir, Miller, and Yocom to name but a few.

each ancestor I find I will make a quality reproduction of his records on the
ledger page and send that to you. If he is in the ledger
book more than once I will send you every
instance of his name (and details) found in the book.

for my time spent reading through the books to find your
ancestor's name (and straining my eyes over some of the
1800s handwriting!)
