Also in the above named congregation (Sandy congregation, Stark county, Ohio); August 22, 1865 sister SALOME SHIVELY, almost 74 years of age, leaving a husband and 7 children to mourn their loss. Six of those children belong to the church. Funeral 1 John 3:2.

"My Mother, at that holy name, Within my bosom there's a gush

Of feeling which no time can tame, And which for worlds of fame,

I would not, could not crush."

Transcribed from the Gospel Visitor, the German Baptist Brethren monthly periodical edited by Henry Kurtz at Poland, Ohio (published 1851 onward). The entry opens "Also in the above named congregation (Sandy congregation, Stark county, Ohio)" — the parenthetical identification of the congregation appears to be the transcriber's, carried over from an adjacent Gospel Visitor entry (see the companion record for Sarah Shively, who died in the same congregation the same year). Our archive's index entry gives her years as 1791–1865, consistent with "almost 74 years of age" at death, but no birth date is stated in the obituary itself.
