Peter Aigner from Bavaria. A soldier in 2. Bavarian Inf. Reg., 6. Komp. Bearer of the Bavarian "Militärverdienstkreuz" with swords, 3. class. Died 01. March 1916 in France. According to the German war grave register he is buried in St.Laurent-Blangy (France), in a comrades grave.
English translation of the card text: In pious remembrance in prayer of the virtuous young man Mr. Peter Aigner, Gefreiter (lance corporal) in the 2nd Bavarian Infantry Regiment, 6th Company, holder of the Military Merit Cross, 3rd Class with Swords, who on 1 March 1916, as a result of being buried alive (Verschüttung), in the 25th year of his life, suffered a hero's death for God, King and Fatherland. "For the Fatherland and its holy laws you gave your young life away; a greater reward than all earthly treasures will blossom for you in Heaven in return." Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love! (300 days' indulgence) These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
