Zur frommen Erinnerung im Gebete
an den tugendsamen Jüngling
Kajetan Buchberger
Karrerssohn[?] von Hausleiten, Exp. Roßbach
Soldat im 5. bayr. Infanterie-Regiment
2. Bat., 6. Kompagnie,
welcher am 28. Dezember 1916,
nach 14-mon., treuer Pflichterfüllung
im Felde, im Alter von 24 Jahren,
in Rumänien, den Heldentod erlitt.
Dein Grab im fernen Feindeslande
Ist uns wohl eine schwere Pein,
Doch nimm dies Wort zum Unterpfande:
Dein Grab soll nicht verlassen sein.
Allabends, wenn die Glocken summen,
Zieht liebend unser Geist dorthin
Und streut dir betend Andachts-Blumen
Auf's Heldengrab mit frommem Sinn.

Kajetan Buchberger from Hausleiten, Bavaria. Soldier in 5. Bavarian Inf. Reg., 2. Bat., 6. Komp. He died 28th December 1916 in Romania. According to the German war grave register he is buried in Braila, Romania, block 5.
English translation of the card text: In pious remembrance in prayer of the virtuous young man Kajetan Buchberger, carter's son from Hausleiten, expositure of Rossbach, soldier in the 5th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 6th Company, who on 28 December 1916, after 14 months of faithful fulfilment of duty in the field, died a hero's death in Romania at the age of 24. Your grave in the distant enemy land is indeed a heavy sorrow for us, but take this word as a pledge: your grave shall not be forsaken. Every evening, when the bells hum, our spirit draws lovingly there and, praying, strews flowers of devotion upon the hero's grave with pious heart. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
