Contributor's notes & card translation
Joseph Danzer, soldier in 10th Bavarian Infantry Reserve Regiment killed on 17th August 1916 on the Somme. According to the German War Graves Registration he is buried at Rancourt on the Somme in a mass grave
English translation of the card text: For pious remembrance in prayer of the virtuous young man Josef Danzer, farmer's son from Schönau, infantryman in the 10th Reserve Infantry Regiment, 10th Company, who on 17 August 1916, in the battles on the Somme, at the age of 30 years, sacrificed his life for the Fatherland. Honour to his memory! Sweet Heart of Jesus, be not my judge but my Saviour. O Lord, grant him eternal rest, and let perpetual light shine upon him. — Printed by A. Lackerbauer, Viechtach. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
