Contributor's notes & card translation
Alois Dietl, who died 19-7-16 near Fort Douaumont, France. He was a soldier in the Bavarian Infantry Leib Regt. German War Graves shows he is buried in a Comrades Grave in Hautecourt-les-Broville.
English translation of the card text: "Christian remembrance in prayer of the honourable young man Alois Dietl, smallholder's son from Kracklwies, soldier in the Royal Bavarian Infantry Leib-Regiment, 12th Company, who was gravely wounded on 19 July 1916 in the battle before Verdun and died a hero's death for the Fatherland the same day at Fort Douaumont, in his 22nd year. Honour to his memory!" Printed by J. Rothba[?] of Deggendorf, Bavaria. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
