Ludwig Feldbauer, who died 10-10-18. NCO in the 5th Ersatz Machine Gun Company.
English translation of the card text: For a pious remembrance in prayer of the young man Ludwig Feldbauer, farmer's son from Penting, Gefreiter (lance corporal) in the 5th Ersatz Machine Gun Company and holder of the Iron Cross 2nd Class, who died a hero's death for the Fatherland on 10 October 1918 as a result of a serious illness, provided with the holy last sacraments, after four years of most faithful fulfilment of duty, at the age of 24½ years. R.I.P. The son, the brother is no more, the joy of our life; we look sadly here and there and seek him in vain. He is no more, he sank down into the dark, dreadful grave. Where shall we find comfort and peace? Oh, only with God, who has ordained it; he also stills our sorrowful pleading with the comfort that we shall see one another again. My Jesus, mercy! (Printed by J. Wein, Cham i. W.) These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
