Weinet nicht ihr Lieben alle
Daß ich Euch so früh verließ
Dort in jener Himmelshalle
Ist ja unser Paradies.
Mutter, wenn die Kinder fragen[?]
Wo ist denn unser Vater hin
Wenn sie weinen, wenn sie klagen
Sage, daß ich im Himmel bin.
Tausend Dank sei dem vom[?] Herzen
Der am Grabe an mich denkt,
Und aus seinem guten Herzen
Mir ein Vater unser schenkt.

Contributor's notes & card translation
Johann Hierl Died 1917
English translation of the card text: In pious remembrance and prayer for the honoured Mr. Johann Hierl, mason in Leonberg, infantryman in a Bavarian reserve regiment, who died a hero's death for the Fatherland on 20 July 1917, in the 33rd year of his life. R.I.P. — Weep not, all you loved ones, that I left you so soon; there in that heavenly hall is truly our paradise. Mother, when the children ask where their father has gone, when they weep, when they lament, tell them that I am in heaven. A thousand heartfelt thanks to the one who thinks of me at the grave and, from his good heart, gives me an Our Father. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
