English translation of the card text: In pious prayerful memory of the honoured young man Josef Jodlbauer, farmer's son from Wartmanning, Landwehrmann (militiaman) in the 2nd Bavarian Infantry Regiment, 11th Company, who died a hero's death for the Fatherland on 7 July 1915 at Montauban (northern France), at the age of 29. May he rest in peace! Honour to his memory! Jesus, Mary, Joseph! — indulgence of 7 years and 7 quarantines (Pius X, 16 June 1906). My Jesus, mercy! — indulgence of 300 days (Pius X, 26 May 1911). Gentle Lord Jesus, grant him eternal rest! — indulgence of 300 days, applicable only to the poor souls (Pius X, 18 March 1908). The reader is asked to apply these indulgences to the dear departed. The verse beside his portrait reads: Far from us you lie buried; you died for the dear Fatherland. Just as we have always loved you, we shall love you all our lives. You were the joy of your loved ones, your parents' pride your whole life; yet we console ourselves again and again: our faith teaches us there will be a reunion. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
