Contributor's notes & card translation
Georg Konigseder, 16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, Killed on the 11th November 1916. The 16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment served on the Somme during this period. He was a holder of the Iron Cross.
English translation of the card text: In pious prayerful remembrance of Mr. Georg Königseder, smallholder's son from Schergendorf, Unteroffizier (non-commissioned officer) in the 16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, 5th Company, holder of the Iron Cross 2nd Class and of the Merit Cross 3rd Class with Crown and Swords, who on 11 November 1916, at the age of 25 years and 5 months, died a hero's death for the Fatherland from an infantry bullet. Honour to his memory! Oh, dearest son and brother, you have left us; you always wrote only: "Until we meet again." The dear God, He can bring it about — the most beautiful reunion of all. For 27 months you fought for us; now you have at last finished suffering. You will have your hoped-for reward: the longed-for crown of victory. Printed by Actiengesellschaft Passavia in Passau. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
