German card text transcribed from the card photograph; uncertain readings are marked [?]. An English translation is given in the research notes below. Sources differ on two readings. Surname: the card prints "Putſcher" (Fraktur long s, i.e. Putscher), while the contributor's notes below spell it "Putfcher". Age: the card reads "im 49. Lebensjahre" (in his 49th year of life, i.e. 48 years old), while the contributor's notes give "at the age of 49". This record follows the card readings; both readings are preserved.

Contributor's notes & card translation

English translation of the card text: Christian remembrance of Mr. Johann Putscher, a native of Treubach, who served with the k.u.k. Gebirgs-Brigade-Stab Nr. 58, and who died of heart failure (Herzschlag) in the Marodenhaus (sick quarters) at Matarello (South Tyrol), in his 49th year of life, on 21 April 1916, for Kaiser and Fatherland. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
