OBITUARY

MRS. ALFRED E. BALL

On Thursday morning, May 10th, there passed away peacefully at her late home on Carroll St., a life-long and respected resident of St. Marys in the person of Mrs. Alfred E. Ball. Before her marriage, Mrs. Ball was Miss Alice Lewis, daughter of the late James Lewis and his wife Alice Bravingter. Born in the Township of Maraboro 72 years ago, the deceased had spent practically all her life in St. Marys. Mrs. Ball was of a kind and genial disposition, and a most devoted mother.

Predeceased by her husband 17 months ago, there remain to mourn her loss, three daughters and one son:—Mrs. Hugh Graham (Alice), of St. Marys; Mrs. Walter Scott (Ethel), Stratford; Mrs. Raymond Joinville (Doris), of Windsor; and Harvey of St. Marys. There are also eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. One sister, Mrs. Cornelius Ball, predeceased her seven months ago. In religion Mrs. Ball was an Anglican.

The funeral was held from the L. A. Ball Funeral Chapel, on Saturday, May 12th, the service being conducted by Rev. Mr. Parson. The pallbearers were six nephews:—Alfred Ball, Ellwood Ball, Calvin Ball, Russell Ball, Walter Ball and Albert Ball. The flower-bearers were Eber Scott, Walter Scott, Kenneth Scott, LeRoy Scott, Alfred Graham and Alice Graham.

Transcribed from the photographed clipping. Our original posting identifies the clipping as from the St. Marys Journal Argus of May 17th, 1945; the obituary itself gives the death as "Thursday morning, May 10th" without a year, so the year 1945 comes from that stated issue date. The birthplace "Township of Maraboro" is as printed in the original. The bottom of the clipping shows the start of the next obituary in the same column, "MRS. J. W. HENRY" (Annie Patterson Henry), which is a separate record in this archive.
