DIED in Elklick district of the same co. Nov. 21, Sister SUSANNAH BEEGHLY, consort of the late brother John Beeghly, who was a well-known minister, and died about 12 years ago. The age of the sister was 88 years 8 months and 7 days, leaving 6 living children, and great number of grand and great grand-children. Text spoken from to an immense concourse of people : 1 Thess. 4: 13. 14.

Obvious spelling slips in the submitted transcription have been corrected (an immense concourse). The notice gives the death only as "Nov. 21"; since it appeared in the January 1857 issue of The Gospel Visitor, the death was 21 November 1856. Sources differ on the year: our archive's index entry for this record ("Susannah Beeghly, 1769 - 1857") gives 1857 instead; both readings are preserved, and this record follows the publication-derived 1856. The index entry's birth year 1769 also disagrees with the stated age of 88 years 8 months 7 days (which points to March 1768); no birth date is recorded in this record because none is stated in the notice. "Elklick district of the same co." refers to a county named earlier in the Gospel Visitor's death column and not included in the extract preserved here (Elk Lick is a township of Somerset County, Pennsylvania); the county is left unresolved here.
