Mrs. Sarah Brown Dead

The body of Mrs. Sarah Jane Brown, formerly of this city arrived Saturday morning from Hutchinson. Mrs. Brown died suddenly last Thursday night in the home for old people at Hutchinson. The cause of Her death was paralysis. Mrs. Brown was 80 years old and has lived in Franklin County for about thirty-two years. Two years ago She went to the home in Hutchinson.

She was married, and one child, John Cripe, who lives in Montana, survives from this marriage. Later She married Jesse Brown who died in this city about nine years ago and is buried in the cemetery of the Church of the Brethren north of Pomona. The body of Mrs. Brown was buried there.

The funeral was held Sunday from the Church of the Brethren near Pomona. Services were at 11 o'clock. The other children who survive are Mrs. Frances Fulkerson, Noah Brown, James Brown, Mrs. George Nitcher, all of this county; George Brown of Cimarron; and Mrs. Ellen Perkins who lives in California. None of the children was present when She died. There are a great number of other relatives in the county.

The capitalized mid-sentence pronouns ("Her", "She") are transcribed as submitted — consistent throughout the piece, consistent with a period respectful-capitalization convention. The obituary says she died "suddenly last Thursday night"; the issue date is 4 May 1911, so the death fell in late April 1911, but no exact date is stated — the death date is recorded as 1911 only. Birth year 1831 is from our archive's index entry for this record ("1831 - 1911"), consistent with the stated age of 80.
