Military Rites at Alexandria Bay Wednesday

Alexandria Bay, November 12-Roswell P. Trickey, 43, veteran of the World War and life long resident of the Village, died in Rochester Sunday after a long illness with Tuberculosis.

Mr. Trickey was born in the Village of Alexandria Bay [Brian's note: Rochester County, New York] on January 19, 1892, a son of Peter and Eliza Jones Trickey. He lived in the village continuously until the entry of the United States in the World War when he enlisted in the Army as a volunteer, being a member of one of the first regiments sent to France.

Mr. Trickey saw service in the Meuse-Argonne campaign and was gassed during the Battle of the Argonne.

After his return from the World War Mr. Trickey worked for C.S. Thompson as a ticket seller. Always active in legion affairs, Mr. Trickey was a promoter of a number of benefit shows for the local legion post.

Surviving Mr. Trickey are his wife, Louise Trickey, his son Peter Trickey and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Porter, Mrs. Duncan Rae and Mrs. Ralph Flynn. All of Alexandria Bay.

A Military funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 for Mr. Trickey. The local legion will be represented by their full membership and will provide a military escort as well as a firing squad.

Funeral services will be held from the Glitz undertaking home, this village, with the Reverend William Aubry, pastor of the local Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Walton Street cemetery.

Obvious spelling slips in the submitted transcription have been corrected (continuously, saw service, benefit, Reverend). The obituary itself carries no death year — it is datelined "Alexandria Bay, November 12" and says he died "Sunday"; the year 1935 is taken from our archive's index entry for this record, so the death date is given as 1935 only. Sources differ on the county: the contributor's inline note glosses Alexandria Bay as in "Rochester County, New York," but there is no Rochester County in New York — Alexandria Bay lies in Jefferson County, where the 1900 census excerpt in the research notes also places the Trickey family. The contributor's gloss is preserved in the transcription; this record follows Jefferson County.

Found by Brian: Cemetery Transcription for Roswell Trickey (includes his father, his mother, his son, and some of his siblings. Also noted is his father Peter's parents' names!) Peter's parents were Thomas & Emeline Trickey, and I found this webpage with a lot of information on the Trickey lineage.
