Researcher's notes

Provenance

From the style of this plate, I would say it dates from around 1890 — which, together with the inscribed age of 21 years 4 months 10 days, would give Charles a birth year of about 1868.

Submitted by Thomas Roberts.

See the related record below for the coffin plate of Emily Rockwell (d. age 70). The 1880 United States Federal Census household below, found while researching Emily, includes a 19-year-old "Charles W. Rockwell" as a son — but that would put his birth year at about 1861, not the about-1868 the plate's own age and style estimate suggest. It's not clear whether this is the same Charles as the one on this coffin plate.

Citation: "Coffin plate of Charles W Rockwell (style suggests abt 1890)," transcribed and contributed to the Ancestors at Rest archive (https://ancestorsatrest.com/records/coffin-plates/rockwell-charles-w/ : accessed [your access date]).

The plate itself carries no inscribed dates; the era estimate above is stylistic, drawn from Lorine McGinnis Schulze’s notes.

These coffin plates were transcribed together on one archive page. They are separate plates, not one shared plate, each with its own photograph.
