German card text transcribed from the card photograph; uncertain readings are marked [?]. An English translation is given in the research notes below.

Contributor’s notes & card translation

English translation of the card text: Prayer remembrance of the honoured young man Otto Hiergeist, son of a Söldner (smallholder) of Mamming, soldier in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, 8th Company, who died a hero’s death for the Fatherland on 24 October 1916 at the main dressing station from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and chest, at the age of 21 years and 3 months. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
