The funeral notice

From the funeral card

ST. MICHAEL'S SOCIETY

Will meet in their room, on SATURDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 29th, at 8 o'clock, sharp, for the purpose of attending the funeral of

Brother A. LOUIS MATT.

Dress—Dark clothes and funeral badge.

By order of the President.

THOS. F. McELLIGOTT, Secretary.

A funeral invitation postcard rather than a memorial card — October 29 is the funeral date; the death date itself is not given on the card. No year is printed on the card itself; "1882" comes from the original contributor's submission (which also noted this card was found in an envelope addressed to John Heidig, 514 East Walnut, City — the envelope itself is not in the archive). Unresolved: the card states the meeting was "SATURDAY... OCTOBER 29th," but October 29 fell on a Sunday in 1882 — it fell on a Saturday in 1881, 1887, and 1892, so the year is uncertain.
