English translation of the card text: In pious remembrance in prayer of the virtuous young man Joseph Peisl, farmer's son of [illegible], soldier in the Landsturm Infantry Battalion Würzburg [reading uncertain], 2nd Company, holder of the Iron Cross, who died a hero's death on 18 June 1918 [reading uncertain] in his 26th year of life in Romania as the result of an accident. R.I.P. [A devotional verse of about ten lines follows, illegible in this scan.] Merciful Jesus, give him eternal rest. These small prayer cards (Sterbebilder) were given to family and friends in the Roman Catholic tradition.
