Hardman Funeral

Funeral services for Joel P. Hardman were held Tuesday afternoon, leaving the residence at 1:30 o'clock for the Church of the Brethren at Lancaster where services were held at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Ira E. Long and the Rev. Henry Wike, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Fern Stroup, Annie Heaston, Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence Goodmiller, Mr. And Mrs. Joe Ulrich, Nathan Wiley and Isaac Shultz. Pall bearers were Levi Ulrich, Elam Boyd, Elmer De Walt, John Adams, John Zook and Joe Wiley. Interment was in Lancaster cemetery.

Cortege Will Leave residence at One Thirty for Lancaster Church

The death of Joel P Hardman, seventy three years of age, occurred at his home one half mile south of the Lancaster center school, Saturday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about five months ago from which he never recovered.

Mr. Hardman was born to Daniel and Elizabeth Hardman June 11,1847. He was married to Martha Winebrenner on December 19, 1882. Mrs. Hardman died August 20, 1898. Surviving are two sons, Daniel Hardman of near Warren, Josse Hardman of Marysville, Cal.; two daughters, Mrs. Hampton Zook and Mrs. Oscar Cruil of Lancaster township. One brother Benjamin of Wayne County, and three grand children also survive.

The deceased was a member of the church of the Brethren at Lancaster at which place the funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon. The cortege will leave the home at 1:30. Rev. Ira E. Long will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery at Lancaster

Sources differ on the state: our index entry places him in Pennsylvania, but the companion Gabriel Hardman obituary from the same bible names a surviving brother "Joel, of Huntington" [Indiana], and this obituary's geography (Lancaster Township, Lancaster center school, a son near Warren, a brother in Wayne County) matches Huntington County, Indiana.
