Obituary

Isaiah Brenaman, resident of La Verne since early in the century, passed away at the family home, 2144 5th street, La Verne, Thursday evening at 9:30 o'clock after a few hours of illness.

Mr. Brenaman was born in Park county, Ohio, November 16, 1864. He was married to Miss Olivene Hardman in Cambridge, Ind., January 5, 1890. They made their home on a farm near Cambridge until 40 years ago when they came to La Verne. Mr. Brenaman was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Ebersole, La Verne; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Petry in Ohio and Mrs. Angeline Miller in Indiana; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Church of the Brethren, La Verne, on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Galen B. Ogden pastor of the church, and Rev. Galen K. Walker, will be the officiating ministers. Entombment will be made in Pomona mausoleum. Todd Memorial chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The clipping is undated and its newspaper unidentified — no death date can be determined (our archive's index entry reads "Isaiah Brenaman, 1864 - ?"), so this record carries no death date. "Park county, Ohio" is transcribed as submitted, though no Park County exists in Ohio — unresolved. The contributor's provenance narrative is preserved under research notes.

Provenance — the Brenaman–Ebersole family bible

These obituaries were found in the family bible of Clara Mabel Brenaman Ebersole. The bible was in the possession of her daughter-in-law, Jenny Ebersole, wife of Isaiah Lynn Ebersole. The obituaries are not dated, nor do I know where they were published, other than those of the Brenamans, who lived in La Verne, California.
