"Aunt Lida" Rolls

Mrs. Wm Rolls, residing near Lone Jack, familiarly known in the neighborhood as "Aunt Lida" died unexpectedly last Friday morning (Aug. 21, 1942) while busy with her housework.

Services were conduted by the pastor, the Rev. Roy Johnson at the Baptist Church, 2:30pm Sunday and burial was in the Lone Jack Cem.

Mrs. Rolls was a member of a family (that of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Smith) which settled in the Lone Jack area more than 100 yars ago. She and Mr Rolls were married at Lone Jack Mar. 25, 1889 and they celebrated their golden wedding in 1939.

In addition to Mr. Rolls, Mrs. Rolls is survived by seven of her eight children, Guy Rolls, Elmer and Clarence Rolls, Mrs. Vivian Tapscott, Mrs. Mark Shores & Mrs. David Hayes.

Pleasant Hill Times

Aug. 21, 1942

(1868-1942, nee Elizabeth Frances Smith. Spelling as appeared in newspaper.)

"conduted" and "yars" are as printed in the original — the transcriber's own note says "Spelling as appeared in newspaper." The obituary says she died "last Friday morning (Aug. 21, 1942)" in a paper dated Aug. 21, 1942 — the parenthetical date appears to be a transcriber insertion and 21 August 1942 was itself a Friday, so the death date is taken as stated but the "last Friday" phrasing is slightly ambiguous. Her state is not stated in the text (Lone Jack; Pleasant Hill Times). The obituary names only six of the "seven of her eight children" said to survive her.
