Knapp/Aldrich Cemetery in Wayne CO. Michigan is on Nine Mile Road which is the townline division between Northville and Novi. The Novi Historical Commission has erected a sign there, but I don't know which city it is considered a part of. I transcribed these stones in 1999. The cemetery has been closed to any new interments for many years.... Mary Pont.
The Novi Historical Commission marker pictured below reads: "Knapp Cemetery. In 1836, Benajah Aldrich set aside one half acre of his farm for burial purposes. Henry Knapp, Benajah Aldrich's brother-in law was the first to be buried here. Most of the burials took place in the nineteenth century. The Victorian symbol for grief, the weeping willow, is evident on many of the gravestones. Most unusual is the existence of footstones, many in their original positions. Typical footstones bear only the initials of the deceased."
