There is no Death! What seems so is transition;

This life of mortal breath

Is but a suburb of the life elysian,

Whose portal we call Death.

In Loving Remembrance of

Charles Mayer,

died Feb. 27, 1890

A precious one from us has gone,

A voice we loved is stilled;

A place is vacant in our home,

Which never can be filled.

God in His wisdom has recalled,

The boon His love had given;

And though the body moulders here,

The soul is safe in Heaven.

Found in Eaton Rapids, Michigan — where the card surfaced, not necessarily where Charles Mayer died. The card carries no place of death. "Place" in "A place is vacant in our home" is faint on this card but matches the standard published wording of this verse, printed identically on other cards in this archive.
