God's Acre Cemetery is located on Ephrata's Main Street. Details
Beissel, Conradpassed away in 1768 at theGerman exile Conrad Beissel came to Ephrata in the early 1700s, to escape religious persecution in his homeland. He was regarded as the master spirit, and had served the Cloister for 45 years. He was distinguished in the Who's Who in the American Colonies by Daniel Webster as a great religious leader in Pennsylvania. His grave is here in God's Acre, the cemetery of the Ephrata Cloister. Beissel made a significant contribution in the course of religious freedom in 18th Century Pennsylvania. God's Acre cemetery is the burial place for Conrad Beissel who passed away in 1768 at the age of 77 and other members of the cloister community, whose names are all but gone from the old, weathered stones.
