Passed Away.

J. H. Ball, formerly a resident of this city, but now living a few miles out in the country, died Tuesday. Mr. Ball was a highly respected citizen and his death will be mourned by a host of friends. Deceased was 78 years old at the time of his death. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. W. *Folkschrf, out on the Mulberry.

*Later censuses showed this to be spelled Tolksdorff.

The first line is the contributor's header and the final asterisked line is the contributor's own annotation on the daughter's surname ("*Folkschrf" in the printed obituary; later censuses spell it Tolksdorff) — both kept as submitted. The obituary says only that he "died Tuesday" before the Friday, 28 June 1889 issue, so the record carries June 1889 without a day. "This city" is Salina (from the newspaper); the state, Kansas, is not stated in the text.
