Researcher's notes

Peter Rutherford's coffin plate was found in Ontario together with the plate of James Rutherford (1819–1891). The archive's contributor was unsure how Peter fits the family: from his birth year (1841) he could be a son of James who was no longer living at home by 1881, but Peter's death certificate records him as born in Ottawa, which complicates a direct link to James (born Perthshire, Scotland).

Death certificate: Peter Rutherford, Kent County, Ontario, City of Chatham. Age 60 years, died 23 Nov 1901, living on King Street, law clerk, single, born Ottawa, died of dropsy.

(James Rutherford's son Alexander went on to become the first Premier of Alberta.)
