TO THE MEMORY OF

Herbert Vogtle

DIED Sept. 19, 1896

AGED 16 Years

One precious to our hearts has gone,

The voice we loved is stilled,

The place made vacant in our home

Can never more be filled.

Our father in his wisdom called

The boon his love had given;

And though on earth the body lies,

The soul is safe in heaven.

The image also includes a cabinet photograph of an infant taken at Eagle Art Gallery, Blue Earth, Minnesota. Per our original posting's caption, the back of the photo is inscribed 'Gertrude Jane Voegtle. Born Mar 24, 1902' — so the infant is Gertrude Jane Voegtle, not Herbert (who died in 1896).
